Panchura, Dr. Francis was called home to the Lord, age 90 on Thurs., Feb 9, 2017. Born Feb 17, 1926 in Muse, PA of Maria (Druga) and Peter Panchura, Francis was the fifth of five sons: Peter, Michael, John, Andrew (all deceased). His wife Mary Hollowaty pre -deceased him. Volunteering at the VA was a passion. It was rooted in his WW2 service in the 85th Evacuating Unit, an Army Medical Corps which liberated a concentration camp in Germany. Graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine followed by a residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Children's Hospital. Fran cared for underserved patients at Children's Hospital and participated on the team treating children with cleft lip and palate. After receiving a masters in Orthodontics, Dr. Panchura set up his practice in Natrona Heights. Fran enjoyed life in Fox Chapel, PA and in Ft Lauderdale, FL and most recently at Longwood-At-Oakmont. His favorite saying was "Onward & Upward" which was shorthand for the foundation of his life: John 3:16. Fran is survived by nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday, Feb 12 at 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home 500 Greenfield Ave. On Monday, Feb 13, the Funeral Divine Liturgy in St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church at 9 a.m., 506 Saline St. Greenfield.
