Maryellen Kostilnik

Maryellen (Banyas) Kostilnik “Mel”, age 90, formerly of Greenfield, passed from this earth to her heavenly reward on January 22, 2018. She was born on March 2, 1927 and was the eldest child of John and Mary (Tomko) Banyas. Maryellen is survived by her two loving sons, David (Risé) and Timothy (Dawn). She had married the man of her dreams, William (Bill), in 1953 and shared a life of love with him until December 1999. She was a loving Baba to Tom Kostilnik (Valerie), Amy Glover (Nathan), and Kate Kostilnik-Hill (John) and was rewarded with her first great-grandchild, Israel, last September 3rd. She is also survived by her sisters Patricia Palmer, Geraldine (Jeri) Holley, Jacquelyn Szilvasi, and Joyce Fuchs. She was pre-deceased by her four brothers-in-law. She was very proud of the many years of volunteer work that she performed for the Radio Information Service (RIS), where she recorded books for those who could no longer read, which was her pastime. She and Bill also spent many hours donating their labors at Mercy Hospital after he retired. Friends and relatives will be received from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, January 26 at the Edward P Kanai Funeral Home., 500 Greenfield Avenue 15207. Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 8:30 am, followed by the Byzantine Rite for Christian Burial at 9:00 am at St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church 506 Saline Street in the Greenfield section of Pittsburgh. Her family would publicly like to thank the staff at Elmcroft Senior Living in Allison Park, as well as the staff from the AHN Hospice team, who took such good care of our mom over the last two years. God bless you for the work you perform each day. The family suggests any memorial donations be made to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause dear to Maryellen’s heart.
