Gallagher, James “Jim”, 94, formerly of the Greenfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at his home in Abingdon, MD. Jim was born on May 1, 1923 in County Mayo, Ireland and immigrated to the USA in 1949. He was an over-the-road truck driver for Yellow Freight Systems for 38 years. He was a proud member and union steward for the Teamsters Local 249. He enjoyed watching boxing, Notre Dame Football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. His humor and dedication to his Irish heritage was only surpassed by his devotion and love to his family. He met the love of his life, a lass from County Kerry Ireland, Hannah, at a Pittsburgh Irish social dance and were married on October 9, 1954 at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Oakland. Jim, was the proud father of Jack (Janet) Gallagher of Sinking Spring, PA., and Sheila Donovan (Bill) of Bel Air, MD., and the late PJ Gallagher. He was the proud “Pappy” of Christine (Hank) Goldman, Caitlyn (Paul) Townes, Casey Donovan, Reilly Donovan, and Danny Gallagher, as well as the “Great-grand Pappy” of Hudson and Maisy Townes. Friends will be received on Friday 2-4, and 6-8 p.m. in the Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home, 500 Greenfield Ave. Funeral Saturday at 11:30 a.m. followed by Funeral Mass in the St. Rosalia Church at 12 Noon.
