Matvey Ann Evelyn, A wonderful life’s journey was completed on Sunday October 8th, 2023, as Ann Evelyn Matvey, age 94, was called to her heavenly home by the Lord. She was born in Christ on October 30, 1928. Ann Evelyn was the beloved and devoted wife of Paul Martin Matvey for 68 memorable years before his passing in June 2015. She was passionately committed and supportive of her husband’s work assignments over the years especially to his career as a service member in the United Stated Air Force (PA. ANG). Her beloved parents were Martin and Ann Seliga, and she was the sister of Patricia Torkos. She is the last surviving spouse and sister-in-law of the original Matvey boys, Andrew, Joseph, Stephen, Michel, her Paul, Tom, and sister Maty Matvey.
Ann Evelyn attended St Joachim grade school and Alderdice High School. In parallel with raising her three children she would hold several parish positions at St Joachim including President of the Christian Mothers, Parish council, substitute teacher, perform parish and convent housekeeping, support the various assigned parish priests, and coordinate various parish social and fundraising activities. She lived her entire life in the neighborhood where she grew up in lower Greenfield, The Run. This is where her Grandparents, Parents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and close friends proudly resided.
Of course, she was a lover of bingo and followed all local sports with a keen focus on golf tournaments, Duquesne, Pitt, and Duke basketball and Central Catholic athletics. Cooking and baking were key interests, especially on the Holidays. Her beautifully handwritten recipes have been passed down onto her children and grandchildren to enjoy year in and year out. The loving, hardworking and caring way of life instilled by both her and her husband is being carried forth by her adoring children, daughter Mary Matvey Roytas and sons Paul (Marci) Matvey and Marty (Cathie) Matvey. The lasting loving and caring way she lived will also be carried forth by her loving grandchildren: Robert Roytas, Paul Seton (Becky) Matvey, Andrea (Julie) Seliga, Allyson (Jason) Kreps, David Matvey, Marty (Kate) Matvey, Brian (Clara)Matvey, Tim (Taylor) Matvey and her great grandchildren Jocelyn and Bryce Roytas, Paul Michael, and Rose Evelyn Matvey, Scarlett and Margot Kreps and Macklin Martin Matvey. Her guiding light will continue to shine brightly on all her family as they keep her wonderful legacy alive in all the days to come. Friends will be received on Friday October 13th from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. in the Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home 500 Greenfield Ave. 15207. Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday October 14 at 10:00 A.M. at St Paul Cathedral Parish St. Rosalia Worship Site at 411 Greenfield Ave. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the various caregivers of Mom which include AHN West Penn Hospital, UPMC St Margaret, UPMC Orthopedic at Magee hospital and all the wonderful Caregivers and Doctors at Presbyterian Senior care in Oakmont.
