Carl Cordero, fondly known as “Chico,” age 61, passed away on February 26, 2026. A lifelong Hazelwood resident, Chico was a master plumber and the founder of Cordero & Son Plumbing. While he took great pride in his vocation, his greatest creation(s) were his children: Aimee (Mat) Davis, Caryn (James), Autumn (Justin), Caty (Robert) Lee, and Carl (“CJ”) Cordero. Proud of his kids was an understatement. Just ask anyone who knew him. Becoming “Poppy C” was his next favorite role of all. He never missed a breakfast or lunch date with his grandchildren-Myranda, Evan, Jensen, Wesley, Harrison, and Ava- and an opportunity to sneak them dollar bills and a steady supply of sweet treats. Chico never knew a stranger. Whether you met him for five minutes or knew him a lifetime, you would likely share a story, laugh, or both. He was the life of the party; his dance moves were impeccable, he had a great sense of humor, and a laugh so infectious that everyone around him couldn’t help but join in. His presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Carl was met in Heaven by his parents, Gibby Cordero and Beryl Burns; his brothers, Cougy and Al; and his sister, Sandi. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his devoted partner, Janie; former wife and mother of his children, Maggie; brother Milo (Sherry) Cordero; sister Patti (Rich) Dziekan; and a host of beloved nephews, extended family, and countless friends who loved him dearly. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, March 5 from 2-8pm, and Friday, March 6 from 11am-1pm in The Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home, 500 Greenfield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15207. A blessing service will take place on Friday, March 6 at 1:30pm in the funeral home, followed by a burial at Calvary Cemetery, 718 Hazelwood Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
