Gary S Knafler 68 of Pittsburgh. Passed peacefully at home on Tuesday June 23, 2026. Preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Shirley Knafler. Survived by his loving wife Diane Knafler, Cousin Don (Diane) Showalter, Aunt Barb Tallon, nieces and nephews; Scott (Jennifier Valdez) Birdseye, Bryan Birdseye, Jessica Delancey, and great nieces; Caleigh Birdseye, Chloe Birdseye, Aria Delancey, Alexa Shoffner. Also survived by Mary (Scott) Delancey and Ralph Delancey. Gary Was born at Montefiore Hospital where he would later work for 30+ years. He loved his second family at Montefiore; they were not just co-workers they were truly his family. He shared a long career with Anton Casciato and Benny Gorczyca as his brothers. There were many more special people in his second family. Gary lived life to the fullest. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing as well as almost all sports, particularly the Pittsburgh team. Gary loved his fur babies, each one was special to him, He was always genuine, he lit up any room. He was kind with his smile and sincerity in caring for all those he met, always willing to lend a hand. Gary and I are very grateful for the care he was given, beginning with Dr. Gorantla and Hanna, who gave us 11 years after his diagnosis that we may not have had. The many procedures he had at Presby Short Stay Team that always greeted Gary with a smile and did everything they could to keep him comfortable, including Terry and Leslie. The Montefiore TICU team was remarkable and last but not least, The Bridges Hospice Team, particularly Tabatha and Cathy who were kind and gentle as if he were their family member, during his final days. A special thank you to Don Showalter who put his life on hold to spend time with Gary and making Gary’s final wish possible to be at home, I couldn’t have done it without him. A funeral mass will take place on Friday June 26th at the 1st Hungarian Reform Church at 10 A.M. Arrangements entrusted to the Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home 500 Greenfield Ave. 15207.
