Joan Hovanec

Joan Hovanec, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on April 19, 2026. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hovanec and son Joe Hovanec. She is survived by her daughters, Judi (Jim) Szramowski and Jackie (Scott) Mautino; her grandchildren, Melissa, Jamie, Joe, and Sarah; and her great-grandchildren, Lucas and Owen, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
A woman of deep faith, she was a longtime member of St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church, where her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.
Joan attended nursing school at St. Francis and went on to serve as a labor and delivery nurse at St. Francis Hospital for 44 years, helping bring countless lives into the world. She will be remembered for her faith, her strength, and the way she made those around her feel deeply loved.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 -7 pm in The Edward P Kanai Funeral Home 500 Greenfield Ave. 15207. Funeral Thursday at 9:30 am. In The Funeral Home with a Funeral Mass at 10 am in The St. Paul Cathedral Parish at the St Rosalia Worship site.
