Bettinger Joseph, beloved husband of Christine Trzcinski Bettinger. Brother of Tom, Betty Ajamian and the late Maria Montchal. Brother in-law of Marie Miller. Uncle to many cherished nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Joe was a good man who loved helping people.
He was gifted with a great sense of humor and the ability to calmly guide people through serious situations. A favorite quote that Joe borrowed from one of his seminary professors was, “Life by the inch is a cinch, Life by the yard is hard.”
Joe retired in 2019 as the owner of Hieber’s Pharmacy for nineteen years. He worked in Greenfield Community Drug, Southside Hospital, and other pharmacies before that. Joe also served as a Redemptorist Priest earlier on.
He would often shed a tear hearing about a person’s struggle and success in overcoming adversity. He was pleased to see that there was a growing movement towards racial equality and social justice. Mentoring young people was dear to his heart. He enjoyed OSHER classes at Pitt, liked reading and volunteering. More recently he volunteered with the Salvation Army and Reading Ready programs.
Do something good for someone in his honor. If you feel called, donate to an organization that helps people, animals or our earth.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in the Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home, 500 Greenfield Ave, 15207. A Blessing Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m.
