Margaret Devlin Downey, age 81, passed away surrounded by her family on August 25, 2020. She was born on September 8, 1938, in Pittsburgh, to A. Dudley and Mary F. Devlin. She married William “Bill” Downey in December of 1976 and raised their family in Greenfield. Bill (“Weedles”) preceded her in death in 1998.
Margaret worked as an executive assistant at the Greenfield Organization, Westinghouse Air Brake, and Pittsburgh Forgings Co. Her adeptness at shorthand always proved useful when organizing Christmas lists for her two beloved children. She spent the last 16 years living in North Fort Myers, FL, alongside her siblings and plenty of sunshine. She cherished spending time, especially the holidays, with her kids and seven grandchildren. Throughout the years, Margie was a treasured aunt and friend to so many; she was forever touched by all those who came to celebrate her 80th birthday party at the Soldiers and Sailors in Greenfield.
Margaret is survived by her siblings Mary Greene, James Devlin, and Dorothy (Charles) McBride all of North Fort Myers, FL; her children Colleen (Thomas) Kuppinen of Raleigh, NC and William (Amy) Downey, Jr. of Allentown, PA; her grandchildren Thomas, Lauren, Matthew, and Mark Kuppinen and Natalie, Katherine, and Nolan Downey. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local hospice organization. Additionally, you could honor Margie by simply treating a friend to a cup of coffee and asking about their day.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at St. Rosalia Church (411 Greenfield Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15207) followed by Catholic burial at Calvary Cemetery (718 Hazelwood Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15217). Arrangements entrusted to Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home.
