Mary Margaret (Horne) Cloherty
Mary Margaret, our beloved mother, passed away peacefully, on April, 2, 2025, at the age of 91. Her family was by her side. She was born on November 2,1933, the only child to parents: Cecelia Walsh Horne, and Peter Stewart Horne. She was predeceased by husband, Thomas F. Cloherty Jr. She was raised in the Greenfield area of Pittsburgh. She was a 1951 graduate, of St. Rosalia’s Catholic School, and attended Business Training College (Point Park), graduating in the Medical Secretarial program. She enjoyed working, and was an integral part of the family funeral business. She retired from the Altoona Veterans Hospital, in 1998. She spent four decades living in Cambria County, before returning to the Greenfield area. Our “Queen Mum,” is survived by her eight, loving children: Beth (Dale) Albright, Sally (Val) Masci, Meg (Jim) Owens, Amy (Joe) Dixon, Tom (Joanne) Cloherty, Nora (Doug) Koper, Molly Cloherty, and Maura (Chris) Neville. She was “Grandma” to thirteen amazing grandchildren: Liz (Mark) Sibenac, Carolyn Albright, Michael (Lia) Albright, Stephen Albright, Emily Owens, Madelyn Owens (Nick Paloma), Zachary (Mollie) Dixon, John (Katie) Dixon, Anne, Sarah, and Joseph Cloherty, Abby (John) Longwell, and Colin Neville. She was blessed with eleven, lively, great-grandchildren: Ella, Alex, Mason, Maria, Julia, Charlotte, Archie, Everett, Louis, Aiden, and Wyatt. She especially loved, and enjoyed, her funny, and attentive sons in-law, and her lovely daughter in-law. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and Cloherty cousins. She cherished her sister/brother-in-law, Patricia and Bill Hitlan, who preceded her in death. She had many life-long friends. She loved cats, dancing, shopping, crochet, water aerobics, bingo, bus trips, late-night TV, her rosary, and a cup of tea, with a bite of something sweet! Our Mother was a beautiful, and proud Irish woman. She possessed many talents, great intellect, wit, and profound faith. She lived a full and blessed life. We are grateful for the care our mother received from the staff at Harmony Hills Health and Rehabilitation. They were kind and loving towards her, and very welcoming to her large family. Friends will be received on Friday from 4-8 P.M. in the Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home. Funeral Saturday April, 12th at 9:30 A.M in the funeral home. With funeral mass at 10 A.M. at St Paul Cathedral Parish, St Rosalia Worship site. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery directly following the mass.
