Mary Vehec, 90, of Greenfield, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederico and Rosalie Bucci. She is survived by her children Lawrence (Linda) Neal, Thomas Neal, and Stephen (Lori) Neal; her grandchildren Lindsey (Daniel) Hrovath, Lauren (Robert) Smith, Brittney Neal, Matthew Neal, Michael Neal, and Stephen Neal; and her great-grandchildren Lyla and Hallie Hrovath, and Logan and Lucy Smith. She is also survived by her brother Frederick (Maureen) Bucci of Pittsburgh, PA, and her sister Angelina (Grant) Werle of Stuart, FL., and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was born on October 29, 1935, in Gamberale, Italy. As a young girl, she survived the hardships of World War II and immigrated to the United States at age 11. Arriving without knowing English, she faced the challenge of adapting to a new country and language. After her sophomore year of high school, she began working at Sun Drug in downtown Pittsburgh, marking the start of a long and dedicated work life. She later spent 43 years at Presbyterian Hospital in Oakland, continuing to work until the age of 78. Mary was known for her exceptional cooking and baking, creating unforgettable holiday gatherings filled with warmth, laughter, and tradition. She cherished time with her family, enjoyed shrine trips, an avid Pirate fan, and loved spending sunny days at Pittsburgh’s pools with her children—despite never learning to swim or drive. She will be remembered for her unique way of communicating, her hearty laugh, her humor, and above all, her unconditional love. As a single mother, she devoted herself to raising her three sons and instilled in them a deep Catholic faith, ensuring each received twelve years of Catholic education. Her strength, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to her family were the foundation of her life. Mary now reunites with the loved ones who have gone before her, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, generosity, and love. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4–8 P.M. at The Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home, 500 Greenfield Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15207. A Blessing Service will begin at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
