Michael Henry Nolf, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, age 72, of Pittsburgh PA, passed away peacefully Friday, February 14, 2025 with his wife of 51 years Mary “Dee” Nolf (Pechin) by his side. Born July 6, 1952 in Pittsburgh PA, he was the son of the late Howard and Helen (Brew) Nolf.
Michael was a man of great faith who dedicated his life to serving his family, community, city, and country. He was a US Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the US, he began his career in the Steel Mill before becoming a firefighter for the City of Pittsburgh until his retirement. Michael was a member of the American Legion and St Therese Parish in Munhall.
Always full of energy, Michael spent his time outside of the firehouse working various jobs such as limousine driving, roofing, and serving as a PIAA official. He was passionate about sports and was recognized nearly everywhere he went by former players who remembered him fondly.
Affectionately known as “Sweaty” by his children and “Pap” by his grandchildren, Michael was a deeply involved family man. It wasn’t just that he would do anything for anyone, moreso that he did everything for everyone. He was always available to change your oil, cook dinner, give advice, and spend time with his grandkids and grandpups. He will be missed for his daily, albeit brief, phone calls (How ya doin’?), his bright smile and carefree disposition (“Ain’t no big deal!”) and his “Ugga Muggas”.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Michael is survived by three children, Michael (Tammy), Tom (Cara) and Diana (Sage Levy) all of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Amber (Peter Fisher), Brenna, Garrett, Gavin, Callan, and Parker Nolf, all of Pittsburgh; siblings Thomas Nolf (Claudia), Betty Jane Reiss (Dave), and Lurlagay Reynolds (Kevin); sisters-in-law Linda Pribila, Karen Cecere, and Sheila Auberzinsky (John); brothers-in-law Brian Pechin (Lynn) and Donald Pechin (Patty); and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an uncle, Thomas Brew; siblings Kathleen Stein, James Nolf, Patrick Nolf, and brothers-in-law Keith Cecere and Michael Pribila.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-8 P.M. in the Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home 500 Greenfield Ave. 15207. Funeral Wednesday at 9:30 A.M. in the Funeral Home with Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. in St Paul Cathedral Parish St Rosalia Worship Site
