Sister Patricia Hodge, RSM (Sr. M. Kenneth), a Pittsburgh Sister of Mercy for 77 years, died at the Convent of Mercy on April 1, 2025. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was 95 years old. Daughter of James Cormack and Isabelle Agnes (McAuley) Hodge, Sister Patricia entered the Sisters of Mercy from St. Cyril of Alexandria Parish, Pittsburgh, in 1948 and made final vows in 1953.
Sister Patricia received a B.A. degree from Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University), an M.A. from Duquesne University, and an M.S.in Library Science from Villanova University. She taught in elementary levels at St. Agnes in Oakland and St. Maurice in Forest Hills. At St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Pleasant Hills and Our Lady of Mercy Academy, she taught in the elementary and high schools. Sister Patricia was an English instructor and assistant professor before becoming the English Department's acting chair at Carlow College. Later, she was the head librarian at Carlow. In 1976, Sister Patricia went to Holy Cross Hospital in Florida. She was the coordinator/associate director for the hospital-wide in-service educational program and assisted in the organizational tasks of establishing the new department. Sister Patricia ministered at Trinity College in Burlington, VT (1977-1982) and Caldwell College in NJ (1983-1989) as the library director and associate professor. Upon her return to Pittsburgh, Sister Patricia was the director of congregational archives for the regional community of Pittsburgh. From 1993 until 1997 she was the Executive Secretary for the Archivists for Congregations of Women Religious (ACWR). When the Sisters of Mercy reorganized, she became archivist to the new Sisters of Mercy Community of New York, Pennsylvania, and the Pacific West encompassing the areas of Rochester and Buffalo, NY, Erie and Pittsburgh, PA, and the Philippines. She also spent time in archival consulting research and writing about the history of the Sisters of Mercy in Pittsburgh. She was also a volunteer at the Western Pennsylvania Historical Society. Sister Patricia was known to be very kind and passionate about her service.
Sister Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Isabelle Agnes Hodge Fagan. She is survived by several relatives. Arrangements entrusted to the EDWARD P.
