Wayne P. Kelly Sr.

July 9, 1932 ~ August 15, 2016 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Kelly, Wayne P. Sr. of Munhall, at the age of 84, after a brief illness, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 15, 2016 (Feast of the Assumption). He is survived by his dear wife Flo (Krolicky), his eight children, Wayne, Jr. (Ann), Michael (Marie), Mary Beth Gasior (Bob), Terry (Gigi), Chris, Dennis (Randi), Ann Carr (Tom), and Brian (Caryn). Wayne and Flo have 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Wayne was born July 9, 1932 in Greenfield, the part of town his heart never left. His parents are the late William, Sr and Agnes (Barrett) Kelly. Wayne is brother to William Kelly of Tuscon, the late Winifred “Dreamy” Linkhauer, Mary B. (Gentille) Clydesdale, and the late Sheila Hess. He was a beloved uncle to many nephews and nieces. Wayne graduated from Central Catholic in 1950. After serving in the army, Wayne married Flo in 1956 and went to work at the Mesta Machine Company full time while working on his college degree in journalism at Duquesne University. As the family grew, Wayne and Flo left Doyle Avenue in West Homestead for Holiday Park with three little ones only to return to Doyle about nine years later to the biggest fixer-upper ever that came complete with “catacombs” and an incredible tree house. Wayne and Flo lived happily on Doyle creating countless memories for 47 years. After Mesta, Wayne worked as the owner/editor for the Voice of North Hills newspaper, city editor for the Homestead Daily Messenger, copy editor at the Post-Gazette, promotion writer for Ketchum, Macleod & Grove, assistant to a county commissioner, was elected to be the Allegheny County Clerk of Courts, ran for lieutenant governor, worked as Deputy Clerk of Courts, a security guard, and finally worked for John Weinstein for 15 years in the Allegheny County Treasurer’s Office. Wayne was an amazing example of patience, kindness and forgiveness to his family and friends. He had a love for learning, story-telling and story-listening. He loved being with people. Wayne thrived on trying to find people employment or smoothing their way somehow. He had a quick, dry wit and stayed calm in all circumstances. He never complained through thick or thin and there was a lot of thin. Wayne filled Flo with confidence that things would always work out and they always did. Wayne was a man of faith who put things in God’s hands during his final battle. He reminded his children that heaven is the goal for us all. Now he has reached that goal. Wayne will be very missed by those left behind, but his family hopes and believes they will be with him again one day. Friends will be received in the Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home, 500 Greenfield Ave. Wednesday 6-8 PM, and Thursday 2-4, 6-8 PM. Funeral Friday with Funeral Mass in St. Therese of Lisieux Church at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either: Fayette Resources, Inc. 100 N 1st Avenue, Elizabeth, PA 15037. These amazing folks take care of Wayne’s special - needs grandson, Matthew.
